Susan Smith

My interest and passion has evolved to supporting how we use clinical outcomes data for better decision-making in health through the science of epidemiology and informatics
With 30 years’ practice working in the Health and Medical Sciences, Susa’s experience has covered basic science and research, clinical tissue therapeutics practice, clinical registries and data systems management, clinical & health services research and professional development. Susan’s interest and passion has evolved to supporting how we use clinical outcomes data for better decision-making in health through the science of epidemiology and informatics.
In roles including Coordinator for the Cardiac Surgical Register at TPCH for over 14 years, Data Manager for the National Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Registry and Principle Planning Officer (Data) for the Qld DoH Health Services Research, Analysis and Modelling unit, she has gained substantial knowledge and experience in data management, clinical informatics, reporting and analytics and epidemiological processes; to support Clinical Quality Assurance and Improvement, Clinical Service Management, Clinical and Health Services Research.
She has a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Medical Microbiology, Master of Epidemiology (Clinical Epidemiology) and has contributed to a number of strategic initiatives at the Health Service level and State level including TPCH Research Strategic planning, Heart Lung Institute strategic planning, and as Board member for the State-wide Cardiac Clinical Network Clinical Information Solution Project.
Susan has contributed nationally through professional associations such as on HISA organising committees for national/state conferences including HISA Health Information Privacy and Security and Data Governance conferences, on the HISA Qld Branch Executive as Chair/Vice Chair and on the AHRDMA national executive. I have also represented Queensland Health as an invitee to the Health Workforce Australia Futures Workshop on Health Informatics workforce.
