Every day, I work to make real the vision I had when I saw my first clinical system in 1982.
I have dedicated my career to Clinical Informatics. In the last 30 years, I have worked for both Governments and Industry. I have designed and brought to market Clinical Computer Systems for Primary Care. I worked with both BMA and UK Government in the 2003 negotiation of the Quality-based National General Practitioner Contract. I was also a founder of and Technical Director of the UK National PRIMIS initiative delivering key educational and data quality interventions in UK General Practice. I led the Clinical Architecture and Assistive Technology teams at NHS Connecting for Health delivering innovations in hardware design, and clinical interface design for both professionals and consumers.
In my current role, I continue to ‘evangelise’ safety and usability from Common Interface Components in both my consulting and academic roles. I am currently working in Sydney on the Implementation of e-health and the shared record to support Healthcare Reform. I also have just become the Asia Pacific Clinical Engagement Lead for SNOMED International. In addition to my UK and Australian work, over the years I have also worked at high level with several other governments on their e-health strategies, notably Brazil, Egypt and Saudi Arabia
