Maree Ruge & Rob Webb

We come as a pair, because we make a bigger impact this way.
Dr Robert Webb has a clinical background in anaesthesia and hyperbaric medicine. He has worked as a clinician in health for over 40 years and in health informatics for over 30 years. His first real foray into health informatics was to build a computer in the early 80’s to store the clinical details of patients in the intensive care unit at the Townsville Hospital.
He was chairman of the Australian Patient Safety Foundation in Adelaide for nearly ten years and has published extensively in the area of patient safety. He was heavily involved in the early days of the Australian Health Informatics Conferences.
His current role is Clinical Advisor to the Chief Information Officer for the Metro North Hospital and Health Service in Brisbane. This health service is the largest in terms of population and includes the major hospitals of Royal Brisbane and Women’s (RBWH) and Prince Charles. In this role Bob is very much the liaison between ICT and the Metro North Clinicians.
He also maintains a clinical role as medical director of the Hyperbaric Medicine Service at the RBWH. He is currently an external student at Deakin University studying Information Systems and Information Technology.
Maree has comprehensive knowledge and experience working at a senior nursing level within the clinical informatics environment. In her current role as Clinical Informatics Manager Metro North IT, she provides high level clinical leadership, operational direction and innovative thinking to MNHHS to progress the effective utilisation of technology and information management to enhance healthcare efficiency and effectiveness.
Maree holds a Master’s Degree in Nursing Research and certifications and experience within critical care and cardiac nursing. As a contributing member of the NIA Committee, Maree draws on her professional experience and qualifications to promote and support Nursing Informatics as a key nursing specialty and critical enabler to the delivery and management of patient care and health services.
Maree is passionate about ensuring a patient focus directs ICT healthcare strategy, investment, design and implementation and is excited about the opportunities delivered through new and innovative integrated care models and supporting ICT platforms to better connect and co-ordinate care and services for our patient, families and clinicians.
