PROFILE »The Department of Health and Human Services was established on 1 January 2015, bringing together the functions of health, human services and sport and recreation. It has responsibility for developing and delivering policies, programs and services that support and enhance the health and wellbeing of all Victorians. Central divisions lead policy development, service and funding design and system management. Four operational divisions oversee and coordinate the delivery and funding of services and initiatives across 17 areas of the state. Each division covers a mix of rural, outer-metropolitan and inner metropolitan areas of Victoria. The department provides many services directly to the community. It also funds almost 2,000 other organisations to deliver health and human services care and partners with other parts of the Victorian public health service, federal and local governments and communities to build community infrastructure capacity, participation and resilience. All Victorians will come into contact with the health and human services and sport and recreation at some point in their lives. The department strives to build stronger, functional, policy and service delivery connections to support the health and wellbeing of all Victorians, no matter what their personal circumstances or stage of life.
