Ali Besiso

A passionate health informatician committed to creating better solutions for clinicians.
Ali holds a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences and a Master’s in Health Informatics from the University of Sydney where he was also the University’s Health Informatics Student Ambassador. Ali’s expertise ranges across a number of areas, with a main focus on Clinical Re-design, Clinical Information Systems, and Natural Language Processing. He works closely with clinical teams to map their clinical workflows and mental models and reflect them in their clinical system solutions. This is combined with his industrial expertise in ensuring smooth delivery of such solutions.
In 2011, Ali embarked on a significant challenge with a passionate team to start-up the company iCIMS alongside sister-company Health Language Analytics (HLA). With his team, he took his passion for the industry and applied new and innovative capabilities to the Health sector. In the following years, Ali made major contributions within a very intelligent team to build a strong market presence in Australia and more recently in the USA.
Ali has led a number of major projects in large Australian hospitals and Health Institutions across multiple clinical disciplines, particularly in Cancer care. He has also scientifically published work in the area of Clinical Information Systems models and evaluation. In 2015, he was nominated for the Don Walker Award by the Health Informatics Society of Australia (HISA) for his work in Clinical Information Systems. More recently, he was part of the Health Language Analytics team that received the 2018 NSW Premier’s iAward for Public Sector Innovation in recognition of HLA’s ground-breaking work in the area of Clinical Natural Language Processing.
