Joan Edgecumbe Continuing Professional Development Scholarship

About the award

This scholarship is to honour the continued service and passion to the health informatics sector by the late Mrs. Joan Edgecumbe.

The Joan Edgecumbe Scholarship is designed to encourage undergraduate, graduate certificate, diploma, masters and PhD students who demonstrate commitment and promise in the field of health informatics.

Purpose

The Health Informatics Conference – HIC – is the largest health informatics and e-health conference in Australia. The conference was initiated by Joan and colleagues over 25 years ago to provide a learning and professional development forum for Australia’s emerging health informaticians. Over its 25+ year history, the conference has become a catalyst for the development of e-health and health informatics policy, practice and research. HIC provides both national and international delegates an exceptional opportunity to learn of new development is the industry, to share with each other and to network and learn from industry leaders and peers. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide opportunities for an emerging health informatics leader to:

  • Network and share of experiences and stories
  • Gain valuble educational opportunities
  • Raise awareness of the range of activities and career opportunities in health informatics
  • Translate evidence into practice
What does the scholarship provide?

The Joan Edgecumbe Scholarship provides complete registration to the HIC conference, including admittance to associated events, networking reception and the AIDH Awards Gala Dinner (valued at up to $1500). Any other associated costs (eg. travel and accommodation) are not included.

Eligibility

Applications are open to current undergraduate, graduate certificate, diploma, masters and PhD students who demonstrate commitment and promise in the field of health informatics.

About Joan Edgecumbe

The late Joan Edgecumbe was a founding member of the Health Informatics Society of Australia and over HISA’s 20 year history she occupied the role of Executive Officer, committee member and Board member, until her retirement in 2011.

She worked at The Royal Women’s Hospital for over 40 years, and until her retirement in 2015, was part of the eHealth Education team.
