Best Industry and Clinical Abstract Award

Presented at the annual conference of  AIDH – Health Innovation Community (HIC).

About the awards

The Don Walker Awards recognise the best submitted industry and clinical case study abstracts for the annual conference of AIDH –  Health Innovation Community (HIC).

  • Best Industry Abstract
  • Best Clinical Abstract

Finalists are drawn from the HIC call for papers process. Submissions are subject to a double-blind peer review as per the HIC review guidelines. The winner is determined by the review score and the presentation of the abstract at the HIC conference.


All papers submitted to the HIC conference clinical and industry streams automatically become a candidate for these awards.

Review process
  • A Don Walker Awards Committee includes a HIC Co-Chair, AIDH Fellowship clinical representative, AIDH Fellowship industry representative.
  • Shortlisting compiled from highest scoring five (5) clinical and five (5) industry papers identified during the general submission review process.
  • Authors of the highest scoring five (5) clinical and five (5) industry papers notified of their shortlisting for presentation assessment at the HIC conference. The award comprises 50% submitted paper review score by Reviewers and 50% presentation score by the relevant Awards Committee.
  • The authors with the highest scores in each category are deemed the award winners.
  • If two (2) authors in either category are given the same total highest score, a joint award shall be recommended.
Award presentation

Successful recipients will be announced during HIC at a time to be noted on the program and presented with a trophy and certificate.

About Don Walker

Don WalkerDr Don Walker was a past Chair of the Health Informatics Society of Australia (HISA) and a pioneer in the application of computers in Australian healthcare. His untiring commitment to the field of health informatics has resulted in a major contribution to digital health in Australia, particularly in the area of terminologies
